The Country Club of Virginia – James River is part of a 54-hole club with three courses: Westhampton, James River, and Tuckahoe Creek. The James River Course opened in 1928, designed by William Flynn from two nine-hole courses. Nestled among trees and hills, it is known for strategic bunkers and challenging greens with a championship feel. Since 2016, it hosts the Dominion Energy Charity Classic (PGA TOUR Champions). It also hosted the USGA Men’s Amateur Championships in 1955 and 1975. Renovated by Rees Jones in 1992 and restored by Lester George in 2003, including a modified par 3 on hole 4 with a narrower playing area and water near the green.
