Privacy Policy

We collect as little personal data as possible.

When you submit a contribution, we use your email address only to process your contribution and inform you about it. Once your contribution has been processed, we delete your email address, unless you have given consent for other purposes, such as receiving a newsletter.

When you upload a photo, you can choose whether your name is displayed as a credit. Only provide a name if you want it to be publicly visible.

We currently do not use analytics, tracking cookies, or marketing cookies.

Community contributions, such as course information, tips, and photos, may remain visible indefinitely. After processing, we generally do not retain data that permanently links such contributions to you.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data ThatGolfApp processes, why we do so, and what choices and rights you have.

ThatGolfApp is a community platform for golf course information. We collect minimal personal data and use it solely for the operation, improvement, and security of the platform.

When you submit a contribution, we ask for your email address. We use this to inform you about the progress of your contribution or to contact you if we have questions regarding your submission.

When you upload a photo, you may optionally provide a name for attribution. If you provide a name, it may become publicly visible alongside the photo. Only provide a name if you wish for it to be displayed.

Additionally, we process the content of your contribution, such as corrections, golf course details, scorecard data, facility information, comments, tips, photos, and other information you voluntarily submit.

If you are under 16 years of age, please submit contributions, photos, or personal data only with the consent of your parent or legal guardian.

Do not upload photos of minors without the consent of their parent or legal guardian.

We remove technical metadata, such as EXIF data, from uploaded images to the extent possible before publishing or further processing them.

However, you are responsible for what you upload. Before submitting a photo, check that the image does not contain information you do not wish to share, such as recognizable individuals, sensitive details, location data, license plates, documents, or other personal information.

Do not upload photos in which persons are identifiable without their consent.

If you provide a name with a photo, we will use it as an attribution. That name may be visible to other ThatGolfApp users.

Do not enter a name if you wish to remain anonymous. We reserve the right to refuse or remove a photo if the provided name is incorrect, misleading, offensive, sexually explicit, discriminatory, commercial spam, or otherwise inappropriate.

We use personal data and contributions to:

Review, process, and publish contributions;

Inform you about the progress of your contribution;

Improve the accuracy and quality of the golf course database;

Display photos and attributions;

Prevent abuse, spam, and unlawful contributions;

Enable the technical operation and security of the platform;

Comply with legal obligations.

We process your email address as it is necessary to handle your contribution and because we have a legitimate interest in contacting you regarding submitted information.

If you voluntarily provide a name for photo attribution, we process and display it based on your choice to include it. You may request that we update or remove an attribution at any time.

If you sign up for a newsletter or other communications, we use your email address based on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

The email address you provide with a contribution is kept only as long as necessary to review, process, and inform you about said contribution. Once processed, we delete your email address unless you have explicitly opted in to receive other communications (e.g., newsletters).

Submitted golf course information, photos, tips, corrections, and other community data may remain visible on ThatGolfApp indefinitely. This information remains until replaced by a new contribution, modified or removed by us, or determined to be outdated or inaccurate.

Because we delete email addresses after processing, we do not always retain data that permanently links a contribution to a specific user.

We minimize the storage of data that permanently links contributions to an individual. If a contribution was submitted anonymously or the link to personal data has already been removed, we generally cannot identify the original author.

In such cases, we cannot process a request based on authorship alone. However, we can still evaluate the contribution based on the substance of the request, such as issues regarding privacy, portrait rights, copyright, inaccurate information, or other serious concerns.

We do not sell personal data to third parties.

We utilize external services to operate ThatGolfApp, including:

Contabo for hosting our server in Germany;

Bunny.net for CDN, storage, and fast delivery of images and files;

MapTiler and OpenStreetMap contributors for map data;

MET Norway (via api.met.no) for weather data.

When you use ThatGolfApp, technical data such as your IP address, browser information, or requests for files, maps, or images may be processed by these services for delivery, security, and technical functionality.

ThatGolfApp is available online, and public content, such as golf course information and published photos, may be visible worldwide.

Our hosting is located in Germany. Bunny.net uses infrastructure inside and outside the European Economic Area, including locations such as the United States and Singapore. Consequently, technical data and public files may be processed or delivered internationally. Where necessary, we implement appropriate measures to protect personal data.

Currently, ThatGolfApp only uses cookies or similar techniques necessary for the operation of the platform, such as for security, sessions, or technical preferences. We do not currently use tracking, marketing, or analytics cookies.

We do not currently use analytics to track user behavior. We only send marketing communications, such as newsletters, if you have explicitly signed up for them. You can opt out at any time.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, and unwanted disclosure. No online platform can guarantee complete security; therefore, do not upload information that you do not want to be visible or processed.

You have the right, where applicable, to request access to your personal data, to have data corrected or deleted, to object to processing, to restrict processing, or to withdraw your consent.

Important: After a contribution is processed, we delete the email address provided, unless you have consented to further communication. Consequently, we generally do not retain a permanent link between you and your previous contributions. If you later ask what contributions you have submitted, we are often unable to verify this.

We can only process requests regarding a contribution, photo, or attribution if you provide sufficient information to locate it, such as the name of the golf course, the page, the photo, the attribution, or other identifiable details.

To request an update or removal of an attribution, photo, or contribution, please email us with a clear description of the relevant golf course, page, photo, or contribution.

If you believe we are not handling your personal data correctly, please contact us. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

We may update this Privacy Policy as our app, operational methods, external services, or legal obligations evolve. The latest version is always available in the app or on our website.
