Lumley Park, DH3 4NS Chester-le-Street
Chester-le-Street Golf Club lies in green landscape near Lumley Castle, with the course winding along the River Wear. This mostly flat parkland course has only four small elevation changes, demanding precise play. Trees and small groups of trees give character and challenge, while the river affects several holes. The relatively spacious greens offer chances for players of various levels. Designed by Sandy Herd and Ted E Ray, the club has a rich history and was popular with King George VI before his 1936 accession, adding extra prestige.
