Portugal’s golf geography is strongly regional. The Algarve has a dry, sunny character and many courses close to coastal resorts, while the Lisbon area combines sandy coastal ground with wooded inland layouts. Around Porto and further north, courses often feel greener and more exposed to changing Atlantic conditions. Inland districts bring warmer summer days, cooler winter mornings, and a quieter setting for golf trips. Spring and autumn usually provide the most comfortable balance of daylight, course conditions, and temperatures, though golf is possible throughout the year. Summer is reliably dry in much of the south but can be hot away from the coast; winter brings more rain, particularly in northern and western areas. Plan around regional weather rather than a single national forecast, and allow time for travel: Portugal’s main golfing zones are spread along a long coastline. Car hire is useful beyond the larger cities, while Lisbon, Porto, and Faro provide practical arrival points for different parts of the country. Booking tee times in advance is sensible during holiday periods, especially in the Algarve and around Lisbon and nearby coastal areas.
