Golf in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Nouvelle-Aquitaine spans a large part of southwest France, linking the Atlantic coast with inland vineyards, river valleys and the foothills of the Pyrenees. Golf is spread across distinct areas: the Charentes and Médoc north of Bordeaux, the pine forests and long beaches of the Landes, the Dordogne countryside, and the Basque coast near the Spanish border. This range makes the region suitable for trips based in one area or for a road itinerary. Coastal courses can be breezy, especially outside sheltered woodland, while inland venues often offer quieter, more rolling terrain. Bordeaux is a practical hub for the Médoc and western Gironde; Biarritz and Bayonne suit the Basque coast; and towns such as Arcachon, Hossegor or Pau can support more focused stays. A car is generally the easiest way to combine golf with accommodation and dining, as the region is extensive and public transport does not serve every golfing area directly. Build travel time into plans between the coast, Bordeaux and inland departments, particularly in summer traffic. Booking well in advance is advisable during school holidays and popular coastal weekends.
