Texas golf is shaped by scale and variety. The Hill Country around Austin and San Antonio combines limestone terrain, rolling ground and live-oak landscapes. Dallas–Fort Worth offers a broad suburban golf base, while Houston’s flatter, greener setting brings a different look. West Texas courses often play in drier, more open conditions, and the Gulf Coast adds wind and humidity to the equation. Golf can be played year-round, but planning matters more here than in compact destinations. Spring and autumn generally provide the most comfortable walking weather across much of the state, although thunderstorms can interrupt play. Summer heat is a serious consideration, particularly inland, so early tee times, hydration and shade are useful priorities. Winter is mild in southern and coastal areas but can be cold and variable in the Panhandle and North Texas. Distances between major golf hubs are substantial; a fly-drive itinerary or separate regional stays usually makes more sense than trying to cover the whole state in one trip. Check local course conditions after heavy rain, drought, or storm events. Reservations are especially sensible around busy weekends and major metropolitan areas.
