Minnesota golf is shaped by water, trees and a long summer daylight window. Around the Twin Cities, public and private layouts sit within a broad metropolitan area, while central and northern parts of the state bring wooded fairways, lake country and quieter resort communities. Western and southern Minnesota tend toward more open ground, where wind becomes a larger factor. The range of settings makes it practical to combine city-based tee times with a short road trip. The main playing season runs from late spring into early fall, although conditions can change quickly at either end. Summer brings warm days, occasional humidity and thunderstorms; spring and autumn may be cool, wet or breezy. Book early for weekend rounds near larger population centers and allow driving time between regions. In northern and lakeside areas, mosquitoes can be noticeable during parts of summer, and rain gear is useful throughout the season. Winter golf is generally limited by snow and frozen ground. Minneapolis–Saint Paul provides scheduled international connections, with rental cars generally the simplest way to reach courses beyond the metro area in much of the state.
