Sri Lanka offers a compact golf trip shaped by two contrasting settings: warm, lowland courses near Colombo and the south, and cooler layouts in the central highlands. The golfing scene is smaller than in many Asian destinations, so itineraries work best when golf is combined with city stays, tea-country travel or time on the coast. Distances can look short on a map, but traffic and winding hill roads can lengthen transfers.
Conditions vary with the monsoons. The southwest and west are generally drier from December to April, while the east has its more favourable spell around the middle of the year. Highland venues can feel noticeably cooler and wetter than the coast. Morning tee times are useful for avoiding heat, humidity and possible afternoon showers, particularly outside the drier months.
Plan ahead because the number of courses is limited and access arrangements may differ between clubs and resorts. Check tee-time availability, visitor requirements, caddie policies and transport before committing to a route. Colombo is the most practical arrival point for many trips; the central highlands and southern coast can be added as separate overnight legs rather than day excursions.
