Gelderland offers a broad mix of golf settings, from the sandy soils, heath and woodland of the Veluwe to the open river country around the Rhine, Waal and IJssel. The province also includes the quieter Achterhoek in the east, where farmland, small villages and gently rolling ground shape a more rural feel. This variety makes it possible to combine different landscapes within one trip, while Arnhem, Nijmegen and Apeldoorn provide useful bases for accommodation, dining and onward travel. Playing conditions are generally most comfortable from late spring through early autumn. Woodland courses can feel sheltered, whereas more open ground near the rivers is exposed when winds pick up. Rain is possible in every season, so waterproof layers and shoes suited to soft turf are sensible. Summer brings longer daylight, while autumn can add colour in the Veluwe forests but may also bring wetter ground and fallen leaves. Gelderland is readily reached by road and rail from other parts of the Netherlands; a car is helpful for visiting courses outside the main cities, especially in the eastern and northern parts of Gelderland.
