Golfing areas extend from the Riviera’s built-up coast to the vineyards, pine woodland and hill country of inland Provence. Coastal bases provide straightforward access to courses around the larger towns, while the Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence offer quieter settings and more varied ground. In the north and east, higher elevations can bring cooler conditions and a shorter practical season. Routing and course character differ markedly between coastal terrain, broad valleys and undulating inland sites. Some facilities are close to resort areas, whereas others sit behind small villages where driving times can be longer than distances suggest in peak traffic periods. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable periods for a multi-course stay, avoiding the hottest summer afternoons and the busier coastal holiday weeks. Summer golf is possible with early tee times, water and sun protection, but heat can be substantial away from the sea. Winter remains workable near the coast, although wind, rain and occasional closures can affect plans. Nice and Marseille are the main international air gateways; a rental car is usually useful for reaching courses outside urban areas.
