About this course:
Carne Golf Links sits on the remote, rugged Mullet Peninsula along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way in County Mayo, where unspoilt dunes rise to nearly 500 feet above sea level. The setting creates a true links challenge, with holes that wind through dramatic dune corners and wide ocean views shaping every round. Known for having the highest dunes on any golf course in Europe, Carne offers a striking natural test in a spectacular coastal landscape.
The club has two championship course routings. Eddie Hackett designed the original 18 holes with great respect for the land, using very little earth movement to shape tees and greens. In 2013, an additional 9 holes by Ally McIntosh and Jim Engh, based on Hackett’s original vision, were added to form The Wild Atlantic Dunes, launched in 2020. That course is ranked No. 63 in Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Courses 2026–2027.
