The Central Valley’s higher elevation generally feels less hot than the lowlands, while coastal rounds are typically warmer and more humid. Tee times are often most comfortable earlier in the day, particularly outside the drier months. December through April is commonly the most dependable period for drier weather, although local patterns can differ by coast and elevation. From roughly May to November, afternoon rain and thunderstorms are more likely, and course conditions can be lush but softer. Pack light rain protection in the wet season, plus sun protection year-round. Driving between golf areas can take longer than map distances suggest because of mountain roads, traffic and changing conditions. San José and Liberia provide the main international arrival points, with the best choice depending on the part of the country you intend to play.
