Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is a Robert Trent Jones design that opened in 1964 as his first course in Europe. Set near the Mediterranean Sea, this 18-hole course plays to a par 72 over 6,492 metres and is known for its long tees, wide fairways and elevated greens that are subtly shaped and fast. It offers a demanding test that rewards precision, especially on approach shots to the many bunkered greens. The course’s character is further defined by its mix of cork oaks, pines, palm trees and other species, creating a varied golfing experience across different hole types and playing distances. Over the years, it has also drawn major champions such as Severiano Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Sergio García, Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy.
