Duncur Road, Muirfield, Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, EH31 2EG.
Muirfield, home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, is a classic links course created by Old Tom Morris in 1891 and redesigned in 1925 by Harry Colt, with later refinements by Tom Simpson and Martin Hawtree. Set near the sea, it asks golfers to adapt constantly to changing wind and fast-moving weather, yet it is widely regarded as a fair and balanced links test. Its distinctive routing sends the opening nine holes around the perimeter in a clockwise direction, while the back nine follows an inner anti-clockwise circuit. The course features three par fives and four par threes, with visible and relatively flat landing areas, except at the 11th, and very few hidden bunkers even when the turf is firm and running. Steeped in tradition, Muirfield has hosted 16 Open Championships and 11 Amateur Championships, along with the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup and the AIG Women’s Open Championship in 2022.
